Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom will win Tuesday's recall race in California. Newsom held an early and substantial lead in results from California's Tuesday recall election shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m. local time. CNN, ABC, NBC and the Associated Press all called the race. He was out proclaiming victory by 9 p.m. 'Thank you for rejecting this recall,' Newsom said. 'Tonight I'm humbled, grateful, but resolved in the spirit of my political hero, Robert Kennedy to make more gentle the life of this world,' Newsom said from Sacramento. It's more like, I don't know, an antique vase. You can drop it and smash it in a million pieces. And that's what we're capable of doing if we don't stand up and meet the moment,' Newsom said.

PIERS MORGAN: From the shameless hypocrisy of AOC and De Blasio to the calamitous red carpet fashion train-wrecks, this year's Met Gala finally jumped the shark and needs to be put out of its misery (on the other hand, Kim Kardashian never looked better!)
Where do I even start with this towering monument to hilarious hypocrisy and horrifically hideous 'haute couture'? Well, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (left) seems a good place for an opening salvo. The socialist Congresswoman has spent the past few years lecturing the entire world on the planet-ending evils of materialistic, vacuous, obscenely ostentatious capitalism. Yet here she was prancing about on the red carpet at the most materialistic, vacuous, obscenely ostentatious example of capitalism imaginable - surrounded by hundreds of the wealthiest and most privileged people in American society. Ocasio-Cortez believed it was her 'responsibility' to attend this ludicrously pointless celebration of totally unnecessary and often cringe-worthy extravagance. Unfortunately for her, the only conversation about the Met Gala today is what a flaming hypocrite she is. And so is New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (right, with wife Chirlane McCray and son Dante), who two years ago gave this explanation for why he never attended the Gala: 'It's an elite gathering, I'm not an elite guy. Let's make it real simple, it's just not my thing.' Yet there he was last night, hobnobbing with the very elite he professes to despise. What a fraud! Kim Kardashian (center), who was mercilessly mocked on social media for wearing what seemed to be a fusion of giant black trash bag and Taliban burka that covered every inch of her face and body. Ironically, she looked better than I've seen her for years. Which is more than can be said for some of the other fashion abominations on show, especially those making political points. This year, against the backdrop of a global pandemic that's exposed so much of celebrity culture as a pointlessly aggravating waste of space when millions of real people are dying from a killer virus, or losing their jobs, it seemed even more irrelevant than ever.
Comedian Norm MacDonald died on Tuesday after privately battling cancer for the past nine years. His death was confirmed to Deadline by his management team at Brillstein Entertainment. The 61-year-old's longtime producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra was with him when he passed. Hoekstra told Deadline that Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but remained adamant about keeping his diagnosis from family, friends and fans. 'He was most proud of his comedy,' Hoekstra said. 'He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that 'a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.' He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.' The famous comedian was best known for his work on Saturday Night Live where he worked as a cast member from 1993- 1998 and starred as the show's anchor on its Weekend Update segment. He was regarded by many as one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time.
